Amber is so dope and I think everyone needs to know her. She is sooo chill(maybe it’s the Cali in her?), which is a great personality to have when you are in NYC and I absolutely adore her blog! She has been working on her craft of documentary style photography for years, and I was so amazed by how much she has accomplished in JUST the past year alone. She cares about the quality of her work and the people she shoots. If you or anyone you know are getting married in the NYC or Dallas Metro area, you need to call her ASAP. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
What title is best to describe your work?
I am a Photographer and my business is in wedding photography.
Tell me about what you’ve been working on lately?
I just moved to Dallas Texas from New York City after 10 years! So I’m working on getting settled and finding my way around the wedding industry in this area. I also recently launched my new website and I am still working on the final details.
What are 3 things you MUST have or do, to get you through your day?
I hate to say my Crackberry, but its true. Although, I’m not the biggest fan of BBM. I also carry around my mini external hard drive everywhere I go. Just in case! It’s vital for me to have at my 9-5. And finally a good snuggle with Miles, my mexi-poo!
Give me a run down of your average day:
6:00am — Alarm goes off to get up and get ready for the day. Since, I’m not a morning person. I packed my camera bag last night, so it would be easy to get out the door quickly.
6:15am — Hit the snooze once, and whined a couple of times to myself then finally got out of bed.
6:20am — Take Miles for a walk and feed him. It’s easiest to do it before I take a shower.
6:40am — Shower and get dressed.
7:30am — Leave out to meet a couple for an engagement session in Central Park, which I scheduled before my office job starts not just because I knew I could fit it in but also because the morning light is GORGEOUS. (I told my manager, I had a doctor’s appointment, so I would be a little late this morning.)
7:55am — Arrive at Central Park ready to meet my couple.
8:15am — My couple has still not arrived and I receive a text that they are running late. (Not good, since I planned this session to the minute in order to get to work somewhat on time)
8:45am — I send a text hoping they are closer… And kick myself for not including an “On-Time” clause in my contract…
9:00am — They arrive! And the bride says how disappointed she is that we missed the beautiful morning light! (I’m shocked, I usually say these technical things about daylight, but didn’t really think my clients paid attention.) So we get started.
10:00am — It’s FREEZING so we head to Columbus Circle
10:30am — I have to cut the session short because I have a “meeting” to get to. Also known as my office jobber.
11:00am — Arrive at work (I am scheduled to be in the office at 10:30 am) So I’m not too late… And quickly write a note to myself about adding that “On-Time” clause.
I immediately open my emails from my office job and make sure I take care of everything urgent. But also keeping an eye on my crackberry which sends emails from my business email.
2:00pm — Research, aka Google, “On-Time” clauses in photography contracts.
2:30pm — Run out to grab soup and fruit for lunch.
6:00pm — Schools out! Just kidding. I’m off work. Head home.
6:35pm — Walk and feed Miles. Consider what’s for dinner…
7:20pm — Download all the files from this morning and back them up. I usually have to give myself a couple of days before I can objectively edit the images.
8:00pm — Work on the new addition to my contract. I learn something new with each client. And I am grateful to be able to learn from these experiences early on in my business.
9:00pm — Continue to do some online research about marketing my business and where would be best for exposure and my budget (which is teeny tiny).
1:00am — Bedtime! Somehow I got in a trance researching contracts and advertising opportunities for my business that when I look up, I see that I should be getting my beauty rest!
